Equipment

  • Cutting board and knife
  • Sieve for rinsing the beans
  • Immersion blender or potato masher for mashing/puréeing the beans

Ingredients
  

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 cups dried pinto beans
  • 4 cups water

Instructions
 

  • Sauté onion in oil using Instant Pot's sauté mode (2-3 minutes)
  • Add garlic and spices, sauté 30 seconds
  • Add rinsed beans and water
  • Pressure cook on high for 1 hour 10 minutes, natural release
  • Blend to desired consistency with immersion blender
  • If needed, reduce on sauté mode until thick
