Roasting a whole chicken in your air fryer is a pro move! You'll get the juiciest chicken with evenly crispy skin, just like the best rotisserie chicken.
Make the marinade by combining the spices, lemon juice, and olive oil in a small bowl and mixing well with a small whisk or a fork.
Remove the chicken from its packaging, pat it dry with a paper towel to remove any excess water or juices, and place the chicken in a bowl or a ziploc bag. *I often use the bag that the grocery store wraps around the chicken, if it looks sturdy enough.
Toss the chicken in the marinade until it is very well coated all over.
Set the air fryer to 350 F or 175 C, and set the time to 60 minutes.
Once preheated, place the chicken breast side down into the air fryer basket and allow it to roast for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, use a set of tongs to flip the chicken over so it is breast side up. Allow to cook for the remaining 30 minutes.
Use an instant-read thermometer to check the temperature in multiple places. I like to check the thickest part of the breast, right near the breast bone, as well as the thickest part of the thigh. The thermometer should read 165 or above.
Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and place it on a board or plate to rest for 15 minutes before digging in.
Notes
It's a good idea to roast some potatoes in the air fryer at the same time to soak up the juices. Here's how I do it:
Cut 2-3 Yukon Gold potatoes into 1 inch chunks
Drizzle with 1 teaspoon of oil
Season with salt, pepper, and paprika
Add the potatoes to the air fryer basket with the chicken when there are 40-minutes remaining on the cooking time.
Toss once or twice throughout the cooking process to ensure even cooking.
